Great Ramsgate Spring Clean

By Tricia Austin

The #GreatRamsgateSpringClean ran between Friday 28 May and Sunday 13 June - and what a Spring Clean it was!

Hundreds of local volunteers, including Green Party Councillors and members, took part in 18 clean-ups all over Ramsgate, putting in a total of at least 500 volunteer hours and collecting many hundreds of bags of rubbish and recyclables, as part of Keep Britain Tidy's national Big Spring Clean.

Volunteers ranged from small children to the not-so-young, from parents with buggies to senior citizens on mobility scooters. They included at least 8 local Councillors, Ramsgate's Mayor and Town Promoter, members of faith groups, community groups, businesses and people who just want to see their town at its best. We had helpers from Thanet District Council's Waste and Enforcement teams, and our wonderful Ramsgate Town Council technician team members were on hand to support on every single clean-up.

We know that Ramsgate isn't perfect as a result, and we'll turn round and find it all has to be done again - but we have definitely made a big difference. Huge thanks to everyone who helped!
