What We Stand For – fairer, greener, better
Thanet Green Party is a community based party dedicated to making Thanet a fairer, greener, better place to live.
We Listen
We pride ourselves on being in touch with local people and what they think and feel. To make a real difference we know we have to be out there talking to people, listening to their views, issues and concerns and acting on them.
This is the reason Greens are very active on local councils and our influence is growing. In the 2023 local elections we gained a massive 200 extra seats and we now hold seats on 550 councils across the country. In Kent we have seats on more than two-thirds of Kent’s district councils and make up the largest group on the council in Folkestone and Hythe. In Thanet we have five district councillors, five town councillors and two parish councillors sitting as independents.
we take action
Our councillors are committed to working hard, speaking up and campaigning on the serious issues that affect us all such as housing, the health service, pollution and the on-going scandal of Southern Water’s failing infrastructure.
We are aware too of the more day to day things that bother people – like litter. So we also organise litter picks, beach cleans and other positive community activities, often in conjunction with like minded allies such as Save Our Seas and Surfers Against Sewage.
We have a vision for a fairer greener future
On the national stage The Green Party of England and Wales has a vision for the future and big radical policies to make Britain fairer and greener.
Our Green New Deal will tackle the climate crisis and achieve net zero, building a green decarbonised economy that will protect the environment and bring new jobs and a prosperous green future.
The plans in our Right Homes, Right Place, Right Price Charter are designed to not only beat the housing crisis by building thousands of new affordable homes but will also safeguard our valuable green spaces.
And we will take on the issues of poverty and inequality to make sure that our country is fairer and our public services, like the NHS and the water industry, are publicly owned and properly funded.
The Green Party Manifesto sets out what Greens are in politics to do: to end the system that keeps hurting the environment and all of us who rely on it – and to build a better alternative.
This programme isn’t like other parties’ manifestos, it has not been squeezed through focus groups and stripped down according to the latest polling. Instead it has been built from policies proposed and voted on by our members, looking to secure the long term future of the places and people they love.
It’s a vision of a better world, and together we can deliver it.
