What we’ve been doing: June update

Our Chair Mike Garner was interviewed by Kent Online about rising sea levels.   Our Central Harbour Councillor Becky Wing was in the news, challenging a decision by Sanctuary Housing to fell the only mature tree on Addington Street in Ramsgate, and securing a stay of execution and a meeting to discuss the matter next month.  Our two Ramsgate Councillors Becky Wing and Tricia Austin are leading a new group established with help from Ramsgate Town Council to support Ukrainian refugees in the town. Our members have been on the picket line at Ramsgate station in support of RMT union members who are striking over pay and conditions. The graphic below aims to explain the context of the Government’s attempts to set us all one against the other on wage rises, in the mistaken belief that fair wages aren’t possible for all workers. Description of the graphic:

It has the Green Party logo. The title is “All workers deserve a fair deal” and it has the hashtag JoinAUnion. It displays the following data as a bar chart:

  • rail worker pay rise offered +3%
  • rail worker pay rise requested +7%
  • consumer price inflation +9%
  • rent increase +11%
  • food price forecast increase +11%
  • energy bill increase +73%
