Thanet Green Party has suspended campaigning for the local by-election in the Thanet Villages ward over the weekend as a mark of respect, following the shocking murder of Southend MP Sir David Amess at his constituency surgery.
Villages Green Party candidate Abi Smith said: “Democracy in the UK depends on getting out and about, meeting and listening to residents and trying to help address their problems where it’s possible – so it’s particularly distressing that Sir David Amess was attacked and killed while performing this key public service. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues at this dreadful time.”
